Founded in 1938, Jaguar is one of the founding members of the wider Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) automotive group that was established in 2013 when the two companies merged in the hope of simplifying the design and manufacturing of their vehicles.

Jaguar started out life as the Swallow Sidecar Company, and changed its name from SS Cars to Jaguar in 1945. It merged with British Motor Corporation in 1968, and was listed on the London Stock Exchange in 1984 and later acquired by Ford in 1990, who later purchased Land Rover.

In 2008, Tata Motors announced it was purchasing both Jaguar and Land Rover who launched the wider JLR group, with its parent-company announcing Jaguar will become a fully-electric company by 2025.

Jaguar’s cars are a particularly good option to buy if you’re looking for a sleek English SUV or Coupe package powered by a range of potent turbocharged petrol and diesel engines, as well as some powerful battery-electric motors. Jaguar’s vehicles showcase a very attractive design language for both the exterior and interior cabin’s upholstery, and receive a range of premium features that make them great cars to buy if you’re in the market for a premium European vehicle.

The question of whether or not Jaguar cars are as good as BMW’s vehicles depends on what you’re looking for, and of course, who you ask. When it comes to outright power, Jaguar’s most potent creations like the F-Type feature a supercharged 5.0-litre V8 producing 423kW of power and 700Nm of torque, which is thrown to the rear wheels and results in a very exciting and dynamic sports car package that is on par with BMW’s high-powered coupe offerings.

The same goes for Jaguar’s E-Pace and F-Pace SUVs, which offer attractive design packages, healthy power and torque figures within the engine range and a number of premium features that match what’s on offer from BMW’s SUV lineup like the X3 and the X5.

Jaguar’s vehicles are produced by its parent-company Jaguar Land Rover, otherwise known as JLR, which was established in 2013 with the aim of simplifying the design and construction of both Jaguar and Land Rover’s vehicles. Jaguar’s cars are primarily produced in the United Kingdom, though the company does have production lines based in Pune, India and Changshu, China.

Jaguar is famous for a number of iconic models that have become some of the most significant automotive collector’s pieces, as well as a racing division that at one point in time, included a Formula 1 team. Some of Jaguar’s most famous cars include the Jaguar E-Type coupe, the Jaguar Mark 2, Jaguar S-Type, XJ220 hypercar, and modern creations like the F-Type, XE, F-Pace SUV and the all-electric Jaguar I-Pace.

The question of whic Jaguar model is the best one in the lineup depends on what exactly you’re looking for in your next car, and whether you’re best suited to a two-seat sports coupe like the Jaguar F-Type, or a more practical SUV package like the F-Pace SUV.

If you’re looking for a compact SUV that is perfect for short hops around down, the Jaguar E-Pace is one of your best options, while buyers in the market for an all-electric crossover SUV package are best served by the recent addition of the I-PACE.
