What Features Does the Polestar 3 Have?

Polestar’s entry-level Polestar 3 comes extremely well-equipped, with premium features like 21-inch alloys, adaptive air suspension, Brembo brakes, LED headlights, an energy-efficient heat pump, panoramic glass roof, hands-free tailgate, heated front seats, tri-zone climate control.

In terms of tech, you’ll find a 9.0-inch digital instrument cluster, a 14.5-inch Android-powered infotainment system with DAB+, wireless smartphone charging and three years of Polestar connectivity as standard.

Polestar also offers a number of optional extra packages, including the Plus Pack, Pilot Pack, Pilot Pack with LIDAR and the Performance Pack.

Polestar’s optional Performance Pack for the Polestar 3 unlocks even more potential from its dual motor setup, as well as a set of 22-inch forged wheels wrapped in Pirello P-Zero rubber, a specialised chassis tune, performance software update and a range optimisation drive mode.

The Polestar 3 is offered in Magnesium as standard colour finish, while Snow, Space, Midnight, Jupiter and Thunder remain optional extra paint finishes that are priced at $2000.

Is the Polestar 3 Powerful?

Polestar’s first-ever SUV package comes into the fight with some extremely aggressive performance figures from its pair of electric motors.

Underneath the stylish bodywork, there’s an electric motor sitting over each of the axles, with Polestar confirming power outputs of an extremely healthy 360kW of power and monstrous 840Nm of torque from the dual-motor setup.

The company says this is enough to propel its 2584kg Polestar 3 SUV to 100km/h in just 5.0 seconds.

If that’s not enough power for you, you’re in luck, because Polestar’s optional Performance Package for the Polestar 3 increases power and torque once again to 380kW/910Nm which helps to drop the 0-100km/h sprint figure to a sports car time of just 4.7 seconds.

Braking power comes supplied by a set of four-piston Brembo brake calipers, while all that weight is wrangled by a set of adaptive dual-chamber air suspension up front, which should give the Polestar 3 a very impressive driving dynamics.

As with most other EVs, flick the adjustable driving mode back into ‘eco’ or ‘comfort’ and you’ll be treated to a silent and extremely refined ride quality around town with the option of one-pedal driving thanks to the regenerative braking system, making for a versatile SUV package that will impress anyone sitting behind the wheel with its outright pace.

How Far Can the Polestar 3 Drive on a Single Charge?

Range figures for the Polestar 3 line-up depend on which variant you’re opting for, with the standard model offering more kilometres on a single charge than its performance-based sibling.

The company says owners can expect to see energy consumption figures between 20.1-21.1kWh/100km for the standard Polestar 3, with energy consumption rising to between 21.9-23.1kWh/100km for the Polestar 3 with the optional Performance Pack.

This means that in the real world, the Polestar 3 in standard form will drive up to 610km on a single charge, while the Polestar 3 Performance Pack will drive up to 560km on a single charge.

Is it Practical and Spacious?

One of the biggest benefits of a bespoke battery-electric platform is just how much extra space you can extract from the cabin without having to make way for bulky transmission tunnels and other hardware that internal combustion cars need.

As a result, the Polestar 3’s cabin looks to be well-crafted, premium and incredibly spacious thanks to the company’s SPA2 platform, while remaining familiar enough to buyers making their way over from a conventional midsize SUV.

Up front, the centre console offers an extra layer of storage beneath the console, atop a heap of practical touches like storage trays and storage areas that give the minimalist-styled Polestar 3 some serious practicality.

The dashboard is particularly clean, housing the large vertically-mounted 14.5-inch infotainment system and a digital instrument cluster for the driver but little else- keeping things clean and adding to the clean simplicity of its design.

The Polestar 3 is designed as a five-seat midsize SUV, and the emphasis on its clear and practical design very much extends to the second row where the flat floor and generous roofline are set to give rear passengers a very impressive place to sit on long journeys.

In terms of cargo, Polestar says the Polestar 3 has a boot measuring 484L, while you’ll also find additional storage underneath the bonnet measuring in at 32L, bringing its total cargo capacity to 516L.

Fold down the seats and the Polestar 3 offers cargo capacities up to 1411L, making it a genuine performer when it comes to space and practicality thanks to its bespoke platform and Polestar’s clever interior packaging that keeps things clean and simple.

Is it Safe?

The Polestar 3 range is yet to receive an ANCAP safety rating, though will likely be introduced with an official rating from ANCAP.

It does, however, come fitted with a massive amount of active safety equipment, including autonomous emergency braking with vehicle, cyclist and pedestrian detection, adaptive cruise control, steering support, blind-spot monitoring, front and rear cross-traffic alerts and surround-view camera.

You’ll also find a lane-keep assistant, multi-collision braking system, front and rear parking sensors, driver attention monitoring, run-off road mitigation, interior radar and front, front-side, curtain and driver’s knee airbags.

All of this safety tech and Polestar’s previous five-star ANCAP safety rating suggest that its upcoming Polestar 3 SUV package will also receive a five-star ANCAP safety tick.

Our Verdict: Is the Polestar 3 Worth it?

Polestar’s launch of the Polestar 3 SUV will be an important release for the battery-electric segment, combining the company’s electric know-how with a much more practical SUV body shape.

While it won’t come cheap, the Polestar 3 does give buyers who are thinking about opting for a Tesla Model X, BMW iX or a Mercedes-Benz EQC another great all-electric option for their shortlist.
