Lexus NX

Starting price $53,550
Georgie savings $2,945 - $8,415

Love your creature comforts? You’ll love the Lexus NX Sports. With almost everything you could want included in the base model, this is an SUV that takes luxury cars to the next level.

You know how people often bandy about that phrase, ‘You get what you pay for’? Well, with the Lexus NX Sports Luxury, you get exactly that…which is actually quite a lot.

We love the Lexus simply because almost everything you could possibly want is standard: front and rear power seats, radar cruise control, surround-view cameras, sat-nav, large LCD interface, plus an electric sunroof and 14-speaker stereo so you can pump those tunes while you get your daily dose of Vitamin D.

So sure, at first glance a $52,500 starting price might seem a little exxy, but compared to its rivals, like the Audi Q3, it’s a pretty good drive away price.  In fact, the only thing that’s not standard is the premium paint job, which at $1,500 a pop isn’t going to break the bank.

What’s more, Lexus is all about the after-sales service with special club benefits and discounts. Worried about how to get the kids to school when your car’s in for service? Not to worry, Lexus offers a free pick up and/or courtesy vehicle. Now that’s awesome.

A comfy ride with all the space you need

The Lexus delivers comfort in spades. The back seat easily fits three adults (or three rapidly growing children) and the cabin is tall, which means lots of headroom for everyone involved.

Flip the back seats down with the touch of a button (yep, back seats are even controlled via buttons on the driver dash) and you’re left with 1,545 litres of interior capacity – great for all your Saturday sport needs (cause let’s face it, that’s really why we’re driving SUVs in the city). Admittedly though, it’s not quite as perfect as we would like – a high floor and thick C-pillars take away a little of the room, but not enough to complain about.

Plus, the Lexus has got some excellent in-cabin storage options, like cup and bottle holders front and back and a roomy glove box.

Safe and steady performance

We’re not going to lie – the Lexus was built for comfort and we like that. But if you’re looking for a sports car, this is not the SUV for you.
While the NX  is the first turbo-petrol engine offered by Lexus, it weighs a solid 1,880kg (kerb weight), which means the engine is not quite as powerful as we hoped. Still, it’s a comfortable ride and playing corners isn’t as scary with the aid of body roll technology and soft suspension.

Our verdict

The Lexus NX is great value for money with almost everything you could want included in the standard package. If you’re looking for an SUV to simply roll around the suburbs in comfort, then this is the car for you.
