Review - Honda Odyssey

image for Review - Honda Odyssey In an age where the SUV has become the default go-to choice, there are so many of them on the roads now that they are starting to get a little bit banal and predictable for some of us. Surely there must be an alternative for those who require a seven or eight-seater car?

Well, in case you forgot, the minivan is still here and it has become an anti-fashion statement, with a newfound cool factor they just never used to have. The Honda Odyssey is a prime example, but there is more than meets the eye. The way it combines a first class passenger experience with Honda engineering, quality materials and the Japanese brand's renowned efficiency gives it talent no SUV could hope to match.

The ninja of vans

Whether you enter through its front doors or slide open the massive side doors, the Odyssey welcomes you with a first-class atmosphere. Depending on model, there is velour trim or leather, with easy to access second and third row seats, that stow away in a way only Honda can turn into a true artform.

A brilliant colour touch screen gives you full control over a variety of audio choices, including digital radio, Bluetooth mobile phone capability, satellite navigation and a digital easy-to-read instrument cluster make you aware you're in a cutting edge minivan.

The way everything is finished, the quality of materials and how tightly everything just fits together leaves you in no doubt that this is a Honda. In terms of reliability and quality, affordability to maintain and trouble-free motoring, Honda has never lost its way and the Odyssey is smart buying.

Space Odyssey

Special features of the Odyssey include an available smart parking assistance system that places the car in parking spaces all by itself. This clever trick is highly amusing for anybody who has never experienced it before and feels quite surreal.

Seat heating is available in the VTi-L model with power doors, automatic door locks, keyless start and a clever side-view camera that gives you eyes in the side of your head all add up to make sure the Odyssey is at the top of its tech game.

While only five colours are available, they are stunners and complement the shape of the brilliant van to a tee. They include Premium Twinkle Black, Modern Steel, Premium Spice Purple, Super Platinum Silver and White Orchid.

Our verdict
